“Winsome Farm by the Sea” is a gently restored C. 1820’s antique home on the desirable, historic Newbury Neck Peninsula in Surry, Maine. Cottage sleeps 6-8.

Enjoy picking blueberries, raspberries and blackberries (when in season) on the Heritage Trust trails. Walking, kayaking and riding bikes are great fun on Newbury Neck as there is little car traffic. Enjoy the grounds and the many local trails nearby.

Enjoy almost 3 acres with a 2 stall timber frame barn built in 1832 as your backdrop. Plenty of room in the yard to play sports, play safely with your pup, or explore the woodlands, the backend of the property. Please pick and enjoy our heirloom apples.

Newbury Neck Road is on the easterly shore of the Blue Hill Peninsula.

A short ride to Ellsworth or the charming Blue Hill.

Ocean access across the street on the Union River Bay for swimming, kayaking, rowing and beach-combing.

An easy 30 miles to our crown jewel; Acadia National Park. (Only one right turn from cottage and you will be there!) Enjoy magnificent hiking trails and their summits, Carriage road trails and the many species of wildlife while enjoying the scenery of the Atlantic Ocean and this unspoiled land on Mount Desert Island.

We will provide you with information for both Acadia and the surrounding areas. We are happy to help you plan your visit to Downeast Maine.

1 mile to “Perry’s Lobster Shack” a local favorite for the freshest lobsters and seafood. Enjoy your meal on the pier extending over the water!

1 mile to the lovely, picturesque “Carrying Place Beach” with breathtaking views of Acadia National Park. Named for the narrow point in the peninsula over which boats were once hauled. Swim, relax and beach-comb all while enjoying the mountains of Acadia National Park in the distance.

Enjoy the beach or a walk and take in the view over Union River Bay to the Trenton shore and the western side of Mount Desert Island.

Surry is home to about 1300 residents and is a vibrant, small historic town and boasts an active, creative, and diverse community, with a strong sense of stewardship, many of whom are involved in service organizations such as the Surry Historical Society, Arbutus Grange Hall and Garden Club to name just a few.

Residents include a mixture of lifelong residents with roots dating back many generations, retirees drawn to the town’s character and seaside scenery along with families who enjoy the rural setting, proximity to the ocean, trails and easy access to Acadia National Park, Blue Hill and Ellsworth.

There are also accomplished writers, artists and musicians who are inspired by the idyllic setting of Surry and the surrounding areas and all that it offers.

The 23 acre Carter Nature Preserve has a panoramic vista which includes tidal pools, cobble beach, ledges, fields and a mixed forest. The preserve has 3 miles of public trails. Nearby, there are another 41 acres which have been conserved on Patten Stream with trails.

Surry retains much of its original charm, communal pride and spirit and is a lovely place to visit and get away from it all.

Newbury Neck is one of those quiet, beautiful places that is close to everything, but far away from any frenzy of tourism or crowds.

We welcome 1 -2 ‘well behaved’ pups with permission and a fee. We know pups come in all shapes and sizes and other than extra large pups, we are generally fine with your furry family member.

Please let us know if you would like to bring 1 or 2 pups as we need a bit of information “prior” to booking. Pups must be up to date on all vaccines and on flea/tick meds. We will send you our simple Pet Etiquette Guidelines prior to your arrival.

We do require that you sign a lease agreement once you have booked Winsome Farm. Once you have reserved your week(s), this will be emailed to you.

‘Winsome Farm’ is newly listed on VRBO. We have rented privately in the past. We welcome your questions or concerns as we will not have any reviews until our 2022 season gets underway. We appreciate your understanding and are here to accommodate you in any way we can. Thank you from the ‘Winsome Farm by the Sea’ family.
